Don’t Get Emotional
Now that you have made the decision to sell, you need to think of your
house as an object, rather than your “home”. Remove your personality from the house so
that potential buyers will be able to focus on the house and imagine themselves living there. Curb Appeal This is a real estate term that describes how a house looks to a prospective buyer from the street. It is an essential ingredient in the house-selling recipe. You can add curb appeal to your house by applying a fresh coat of paint, landscaping the yard, sealing the cracks in your driveway, decorating with some attractive lawn furniture, and placing a few potted plants near the entry way. Attract more potential buyers by increasing your curb appeal. Make Minor Repairs and Updates If your house has a leaky faucet, peeling paint, or some other minor defect, it is a good idea to make the repairs before you try to sell it. Small defects may seem meaningless to you, but potential buyers may focus on the defects rather than the qualities of the house. Replace outdated faucets, door handles, light fixtures, torn carpets, the handles on cabinets and drawers, etc. Clean and Decorate Have some fun. Put all of your knick-knacks and family photos away. Clean out the closets and storage spaces; buyers will probably want to see these parts of your house (You may need to rent or purchase a storage space). Place houseplants and scented candles throughout the house. Paint the walls with a warm and neutral color if needed. Keep your furniture in the house, so buyers can imagine their furniture in its place.
